Keynote Speaker

PHILIP L. OTTERNESS, PhD. Distinguished historian Philip Otterness will be the keynote speaker at the 2024 Palatines to America National Conference.

Dr. Otterness, known best for Becoming German: The 1709 Palatine Migration to New York, will be speaking on the New Bern, North Carolina Palatines, their interactions with local Tuscarora Indians, and a comparative study of that tribe’s interactions with Palatines in New York’s Mohawk Valley after they sought refuge there. He will also lecture about his adventures in various archives around the world in search of the Palatines’ story. Conference attendees will also have an extended opportunity to ask Dr. Otterness any questions they may have regarding the Palatine migration.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION INCLUDES:

• Access to all of the lectures, including those of keynote speaker, Philip Otterness
• Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Friday and Saturday
• Invitation to a meet and greet on Thursday evening
• An overview of how to use the State Library for genealogy on Thursday. The State Library is just a few blocks from the Albany Hilton.
